Poker Tournaments on Android
Dozens of sites are now offering Android poker apps for real money but as yet, very few have made the jump to offering tournaments on Android with most opting exclusively for cash games. At present, only PokerStars, 888poker, and Terminal Poker offer tournaments of any sort. Presumably other sites are shying away from tournaments due to issues like designing a mobile tournament lobby, as well as the increased cost attached to disconnections during a tournament.
If you disconnect during a cash game hand and can’t get back on, you’re simply sat out of the game. However, if you disconnect during a tournament you’re just going to be blinded away until such time as you can get back to the table. If you’re at the business end of the tournament or even the final table, then this could prove very expensive!

What are the Options for Tournament Players?
PokerStars are by far and away the leaders when it comes to tourneys, and in fact they’re the online company that offer multi-table tournaments on Android. Always first with innovations, PokerStars have a full range of tournaments available to players on phones or tablets including all of their regular guaranteed prizepool tournaments as well as rebuys, turbos, knockouts, satellites, and sit and go tourneys. The only think to be wary of is that PokerStars tournaments tend to get thousands of runners, particularly those with large guaranteed prize pools, so make sure that you have your charger with you if you’re planning on winning one!
The only other option for Android poker players who want a little tournament action is 888poker. If sit and gos are your thing then 888’s app offer heads-up, shorthanded, and full ring sit and go tournaments with buyins up to $22 in their app. More recently, they’ve just added their multi-table tournament lobby to the app so be sure to check it out. The one good thing about 888 is that it’s a lot softer than PokerStars, whose sit and gos seem to be backed with regular players who are quite good, while 888’s games are full of fish. You can read our comparison of the 888 and PokerStars apps here.
Terminal Poker is an in-browser poker site that offers fast-fold games, similar to PokerStars Zoom Poker game. They offer guaranteed prize pool games every day but they’re much smaller than PokerStars. Terminal is a good option if you want to play small MTTs that end relatively quickly
What About Other Sites?
Regardless of what other poker portals who don’t have a clue about Android poker will tell you, there are no more options for tourneys on Android. iPoker’s app is expected to come out quite soon, but they haven’t announced yet whether they’ll offer tournaments. My own feeling is that they won’t, mostly because they tend to things slowly. They usually like to only make a mess of one thing at a time! PKR are also in the process of making their Android app, but again there’s no word on whether it’ll feature tournaments. So for now, you’re limited to Stars or 888 if you want some tourney action!
As yet there are still no Android poker options for American players, but we’re always in contact with the sites and you’ll know as soon as we do when there’s something in the pipeline for American players.
